Fine line has become the most requested style of the last decade, and in the right hands it is the most elegant thing you can wear. Very little ink goes into the skin, so everything rests on the steadiness of the line and the confidence of the drawing.
It is a specialist's style rather than something every artist can turn their hand to. The needles are tiny, the margin for correction is small, and a line that wavers has nowhere to hide. Ask to see healed work from the artist who will be doing yours, because fresh fine line always looks sharp and healed fine line is the real test.
This gallery covers botanical and floral work, delicate animals and figures, fine script, and ornamental pieces built entirely from line. Much of it sits on the forearm, spine, ribs and ankle, where the skin suits the scale.
Size matters more here than in any other style. Every fine line design has a size below which the lines start to run together as they settle. Your artist will tell you what that size is at the consultation, before anything starts.
